How many Dorys are there in the sea?
SAIA intends to start a project in collaboration with scientists researching the status of Paracanthurus hepatus populations in Indonesia and in the Philippines. The project seeks to use the public attention provoked by “Finding Dory” to generate demand and support, by aquarium hobby and industry as well as the public, for coral reef conservation and sustainable resource use. Dory with her current publicity has been chosen as ambassador for other aquarium fish. The research results of the project will make the case for better regulation and management of aquarium fisheries and therefore a responsible use of natural resources.
